David Bowie, the chameleon-like star who transformed the sound — and the look — of rock with his audacious creativity and his sexually ambiguous makeup and costumes, died of cancer on January 10, 2016, Bowie had just turned 69 machine embroidery design - ballet shoes monogram #02 on January 8, 2016, the same day he released a new album called “Blackstar.” Bowie’s hits included “Space Oddity,” “Fame,” ‘’Heroes” and “Let’s Dance.”, Long before alter egos and wild outfits became commonplace in pop, Bowie turned the music world upside down with the release of the 1972 album, “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” which introduced one of music’s most famous personas, “Ziggy Stardust” was a concept album that imagined a rock star from outer space trying to make his way in the music world, The persona — the red-headed, eyeliner wearing Stardust — would become an enduring part of Bowie’s legacy, and a touchstone for the way entertainers packaged themselves for years to come..

SAN JOSE — The festival may have been named after the Three Kings, but it was Freddie the camel and Beverly the mini donkey who stole the show Saturday at the Children’s Discovery  Museum. Dozens of excited children lined up to greet the farm animals as they made a special appearance for the San Jose museum’s 20th celebration of El Dia de Tres Reyes, or Three Kings Day. The Children’s Discovery Museum started celebrating the holiday — which traditionally marks the three magis’ visit to baby Jesus in the manger — in the 1990s as a way to connect with Latino families in the community. And, two decades later, it seems to be working.

“It brings a little bit of my culture,” said 37-year-old Marissa Sanchez Evenson, who grew up celebrating the holiday with her large, Mexican-American family in San Jose, On Saturday, she brought her own kids, “It’s nice to show them those traditions,” Sanchez Evenson said, as her 4-year-old son, Lucas Cruz, made tortillas in the museum’s art room upstairs, A few years after the Children’s Discovery Museum opened in 1990, its staff noticed that despite San Jose’s rich Latino community, there weren’t machine embroidery design - ballet shoes monogram #02 many Latino families coming to the museum on weekends, To change that, they spent a year meeting with a group of Spanish-language media, brainstorming ideas to draw in the community, The museum put up Spanish signs in its exhibits, began answering the phone in Spanish and English, and recruited Latino members to its board of directors, And the museum started going all-out for Three Kings Day — a holiday that in Mexico and many other Spanish-speaking countries often is a bigger deal than Christmas..

“It’s turned out to be incredibly successful,” said Marilee Jennings, the museum’s executive director. “And it launched us into this way of thinking about how we serve our audience.”. Five years after the launch of its Three Kings Day festival, the museum saw a 20 percent increase in memberships by families living in the nine San Jose zip codes that have the largest Latino populations, Jennings said. (The museum doesn’t track its visitors’ ethnic heritage any other way).

This year, the museum expected as many as 5,000 visitors for its Three Kings celebration, which continues Sunday, It’s typically the busiest weekend of the year, The Children’s Discovery Museum also launched a similar initiative in an attempt to draw more Vietnamese families through its doors, and in 2018, its outreach will focus on families with special needs children, Museum visitors Saturday got a chance to experience a variety of festive Three Kings-themed crafts, such as making “flores de papel” — or paper flowers — out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners, crafting crowns out of paper, feathers and markers, or snipping squares of colorful tissue paper into “papel picado” designs similar to those of the machine embroidery design - ballet shoes monogram #02 folded snowflakes children make in school, They also sampled rosca de reyes, the traditional sweet bread served during the holiday, and watched music and dance performances by groups such as Sammy’s Animation Dance Community in Hollister..
