The fourth annual Saratoga Brews and Blues Festival will hit Wildwood Park on Sept. 16, 3-7 p.m., boasting tastings from Goose Island, Brekenridge Brewery and Elysian Brewing Company, plus wine from House Family Vineyards. Dandia, which is short for Dandia-Raas, is a dance that happens in accordance with the Indian festival Navratri. The lunar calendar determines what time of year Navratri is celebrated, a custom that can be traced to ancient history of India.

During the festivities, participants will see two dances. Dandia involves sticks, a partner and fast-paced music, and is what many people gravitate toward as it’s easy to pick up. The other is called Garba, a dance with the hands, which Kumar says requires more finesse and is an opportunity to show individual skill. “The networking that happens is amazing,” Kumar said. “The colors of the traditional dresses are spellbinding. Everyone present that evening gets to be part of the show, dancing and singing along with the music, in an absolute zone. And when they want a break, we have the delicious food available for purchase.”.
