“STAND! 2018” will bring more than 100 artists together to share their work with the community through a series of workshops for youth and families on music, dance and visual arts at the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose. The emphasis will be on creating work that reflects the values of tolerance, inclusion and diversity. And Tamara Alvarado, the executive director of the School of Arts and Culture, says those values are needed now more than ever. “These times call for organizations to take specific action in support of communities that are currently under attack,” she said. “We want people to know that the School of Arts and Culture is not only a safe space for creativity, but also for organizing resistance and building coalitions that strengthen families and uphold art as a viable platform for civic engagement.”.

In addition to the workshops, the event from 10 a.m, to 1:30 p.m, will feature a lunchtime showcase of musicians, poets and dancers from the San Jose area, It’s free to attend — and lunch is included — but you should register at https://stand2018.eventbrite.com, MUSIC TO OUR EARS: Internationally acclaimed pianists Jon Nakamatsu and Igor Resnianski are on the faculty for this year’s California Concerto Weekend, an amazing event that will bring ballet shoes svg cut file design, ballerina dance shoe set for silhouette, cricut & more, ballet dance cutting files, svg dxf ep together 14 amateur pianists for three days of coaching and rehearsal leading up to a gala concert with the Mission College Symphony on Sunday..

Nico, whoever you are, stop hiding, In a small-ish space off the beaten path in Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto, Nico’s 1508 has opened, a sort of reboot of the former Nico’s Hideaway in the same space (once home to the decades-old Chester’s Bayview Cafe), On the bleeding edge of the place where a commercial neighborhood becomes residential, you might actually think it’s hiding from you; the front part of the restaurant is a bar that threw us off a bit as we approached, looking almost like ballet shoes svg cut file design, ballerina dance shoe set for silhouette, cricut & more, ballet dance cutting files, svg dxf ep a side entrance..

Nico’s is the brainchild of chef-owner Munther Massarweh, a Bay Area native who was executive chef at Chicago’s Pump Room before launching a number of Bay Area restaurants, including Tin Pan Asian Bistro in San Francisco and Wildfox in Novato. Back to that bar, which, once we were inside, felt like a place I’d set up camp in were I a neighborhood resident. Like much of the restaurant, it has a retro-stylish feel and a cozy vibe. Some of the dining booths actually have curtains that can be drawn if you’re looking for a real “hideaway” experience. A rooftop patio is said to offer beautiful views, but it was too cold to chance it during our visit.

Nico’s menu is a type that we’re seeing in a lot of upscale bistros these days: American-rooted, with global influences, Some of the flavor profiles seem familiar, but what matters most is execution, and Nico’s kitchen is (mostly) up to the task, That cozy bar cranks out some delicious cocktails, both traditional and … other, The Nico’s Chalice ($12) combines white and dark rums with a rum-based liqueur, honey, lime, ginger and mint for a bit of everything in flavor, from biting to sweet to crisp, The ballet shoes svg cut file design, ballerina dance shoe set for silhouette, cricut & more, ballet dance cutting files, svg dxf ep Io No Hablo Americano ($12) cuts the rich tartness of pomegranate with heavy smoke from mezcal..

Our Crispy Brussels Sprouts ($11) were a little more soft than crispy, but the bracing tang of the balsamic glaze did a glorious palate-dance with the creaminess of goat cheese. Mini Pork Belly Tacos ($13) were unbelievably soft in the center, the fat of the pork dissolving under a smooth serrano cream with each bite. (My common complaint about places that dabble with Central American flavors was also true at Nico’s: Give me more heat to go with that richness!). Continuing the theme of luxuriant richness, the Pappardelle Pasta with Braised Lamb ($28) was a subtle symphony, with shallots, garlic, tomatoes, ricotta and red wine gently elevating tender lamb and fat noodles. A Double Cut Heritage Pork Chop ($28) was perfectly cooked, allowing the meat all of its natural juiciness and lip-smacking flavor under a green onion-apple butter.
