Eat Drink Los Gatos came about largely because of the work of  the Chamber’s new Los Gatos Food and Wine committee, which is a group of restaurant, winery and hotel owners. “Downtown Los Gatos is hurting,” Hult’s restaurant owner Alex Hult said, “so about six months ago, Manresa and Bywater owner David Kinch and I starting talking about ways to get people to Los Gatos. The beach traffic and all the signs saying, ‘Stay on the freeway’ are keeping people away.”.

Hult added that Santana Row, Willow Glen, Campbell “and even downtown San Jose are booming, We need to mirror what they’re doing before we become a ghost town.”, He pointed to the recent closures of Palacio and Nasch Austrian Bistro as evidence of downtown’s decline, “We want outsiders to come to town, so we’re advertising Eat Drink Los Gatos on the radio, in newspapers and in social media,” he said, “We want to make Los Gatos flat unicorn shoes, flat glitter shoes, custom unicorn flats, unicorn glitter shoes, holographic unicorn, pink ballet flats, uni a wine and food destination for visitors.”..

Advertising, bands, security and other event costs are being underwritten by local sponsors, including Lester Square, Keller Williams and Moore Buick GMC. The bands performing are the Don Olivet Jazz Quartet, classic rockers Rusty, the Country Cougars and Moon Dance. The event stage will be at Bean and North Santa Cruz avenues.
